Top 3 Strategies to Exponentially Grow your Twitter Following

Top 3 Strategies to Exponentially Grow your Twitter Following

It’s no secret that Twitter is a powerful platform for growing your brand. Whether you are running the social media account of a large company, or just working on building a new online income stream, building a Twitter following can be highly profitable venture. But what if you’re struggling to grow your following? Don’t worry, there are many different ways to quickly grow your Twitter following if you’re willing to be strategic about how you approach it.

Everyone knows that you need to tweet regularly, engage with your followers, and have a relevant bio description, but what are some key tactical things you can do to take your growth to the next level?

In this article, we will discuss some of the most effective strategies to build a massive Twitter following as quickly as possible. If you implement these strategies consistently over the next few months, you’ll be shocked to see how much you’ve grown as a result.

1) Optimize your Banner

Most brands or businesses don’t put nearly enough thought into their Twitter banner. This is a big mistake because your banner is one of the first things people see when they visit your profile. You want to make sure that your banner accurately reflects what you’re all about and compels people to follow you.

Your banner is the sales hook to get people to stay.

Think about it this way, if you were scrolling through Twitter, would you be more likely to follow an account that had a banner saying, “Follow for business advice,” or would you be more likely to follow one that said, “Follow us for tactical tips that 10x your business”?

The answer is obvious.

It seems like a simple tweak, but how can you use your banner to sell?

  • Sell your authority.
  • Sell your vision.
  • Sell your brand.

But most importantly show them what THEY get out of following you. Make it them-focused.

Don’t waste the opportunity to craft a quality piece of content within your banner — it’s the main thing people see and will use to decide whether they’ll follow you or not. They’ll make the decision to follow you or leave within the first few seconds of viewing your profile. So use your banner as a sales hook to keep them there.

Make sure your banner accurately reflects what you’re all about and why peoples’ lives will change as a result of following you.

2) Use Technology to Automate and Enhance your Strategy

There are so many social media tools these days that it’s hard to keep track of all of them. But the good news is, you don’t need to use all of them (or even most of them) to see massive results.

There are a few key Twitter tools that will help automate and enhance your growth strategy, making it easier for you to get more followers without spending all day on Twitter.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Tweetdeck

This is a great tool for scheduling your tweets in advance so that you’re not spending all day on Twitter. Simply compose your tweets, schedule them for the times when you know your audience is most active, and let Tweetdeck do the rest. It also allows you to respond to comments in an incredibly efficient way.

Black Magic

This tool can also do some scheduling, but where it really shines is in the analytics. It gives you valuable insights into your account growth, who your most engaged followers are, and which of your tweets are getting the most engagement. This is incredibly valuable information that you can use to further optimize your strategy. Once you know what your followers are engaging with and responding to the most, you can start to tailor your content to fit their desires.

Tweepi

Tweepi is an awesome tool that allows you to quickly follow, unfollow, and engage with other Twitter users. It’s great for finding new people to follow who are likely to follow you back, as well as for identifying which of your current followers are inactive and not worth keeping around. This helps keep your following/follower ratio in line with what Twitter’s algorithm likes to see.

Using technology effectively can save you TONS of time and help you to execute your growth strategy in the most efficient way possible.

3) Provide MASSIVE Value

If you want people to follow you on Twitter (or really, any social media platform), you need to give them a reason to. The best way to do this is by providing value.

Your tweets should be interesting, informative, and helpful — something that your audience will want to see pop up in their feed. This is how you’ll earn respect and followers.

Here are a few types of tweets you can regularly put out to earn their trust and following:

Threads (1-2 per week)

Threads allow you to display your authority and provide more value and depth than an individual tweet. Don’t expect to grow on Twitter if you aren’t regularly putting out high-value threads that are tailored to your target audience. Look at other threads from competitors to analyze their most successful threads, and use it to guide your own thread creation. If you don’t feel like you could be charging money for the information in your thread, you haven’t made it valuable enough yet.

Daily Tweets (3-4 per day)

Every day you should be Tweeting out unique perspectives, engaging thoughts, thought-provoking questions that spur conversation, and quotes that align yourself with existing authority figures. Schedule out your Tweets to hit at different times throughout the day, as you’ll engage with varying demographics depending on what time of day your Tweet goes out.

Quote Tweets (1-3 per day)

Quote-Tweets are a sneaky way to grow that most people don’t utilize properly. The problem is that most people just straight Retweet something they like, or some take it a step further and Quote-Tweet but just say something generic like, “This is great.”

The magic happens when you Quote Tweet, and ADD VALUE to the original conversation in a way that makes the other account want to Retweet your Quote Tweet. Doing this is like free advertising for your brand to the larger account’s thousands of followers. Just make sure you are Quote Tweeting much larger accounts than yours.

Here’s the process:

Find Large Accounts

Find large accounts in your niche with high-engagement rates (you don’t want to waste your time with an account that has 100,000 followers but gets 3 likes per tweet — the followers are most likely bots or inactive accounts).

Set Alerts

Set up alerts so you are notified when they post a new Tweet so you can be one of the first people to engage. Wait for them to post something good, and engage with a quick interesting comment.

And then take it a step further…

Quote Tweet

Don’t just retweet, but Quote Tweet their Tweet, and ADD to the conversation. The sooner you can Quote Tweet them after they post, the better. Their goal during the first 30 minutes or so of their new Tweet is to display adequate social proof to both their followers and non-followers alike that “this is a good Tweet and worth your time to read”, so they are more likely to Retweet your Quote Tweet if it is two things:

  1. If it’s done soon after their original Tweet (typically within the first 30 minutes is the sweet spot).
  2. If it adds unique value to the conversation. Add value by offering unique insight, adding humor, showing genuine appreciation or admiration, or asking thought-provoking questions.

Bottom Line

Building a social media following is an incredible way to grow your influence and can allow you the opportunity to dramatically increase your income through selling services, products, online courses, or through affiliate marketing. But if you want to grow on Twitter, you have to be strategic about it. “Build it, and they will come,” is a strategy that works in the “Field of Dreams” movie, but not with an online business.

You need to develop a strategy to achieve your growth goals; and by optimizing your profile appearance and banner, using technology to become more efficient and effective, and providing tremendous value to your followers, you can achieve insane levels of growth in a short period of time.

Ignore these growth strategies at your own peril.
