Because of this, it is necessary to learn to manage your time for superior productivity. The good news is, there are plenty of tools, such as a document management workflow program, that can help; there are other tips, as well. Keep reading for some time management tips that will help you get more done each day.
Block Off Part of Your Day as “Meeting-Free” Times
Meetings are one of the top productivity killers for any company or business, including digital marketers. Because of this, you need to ensure you are blocking off time each week and each day that will remain meeting-free. It does not matter when this is, but make sure you give yourself time to get things done.
When you choose what times or days to have these meeting-free times, you need to ensure that everyone knows you will be unavailable. This is going to help you focus on getting things done without having to worry about being interrupted.
Know Your Limits
You likely want to take on all marketing tasks and ensure they are handled properly. While this is true, some tasks are going to be beyond your scope of possibility. Even if you feel like you must push beyond your limits to meet goals that have been set, you shouldn’t.
You need to know what your limitations are and then make sure you are working within these. By doing this, you can remain healthy and ensure you have the energy to succeed with your work campaigns.
Give Yourself Time Limits
By allocating a certain amount of time for tasks, you will become much more productive. It is well-known that allowing a single task to consume all your time is possible. The work will grow and expand, which means completing what you are working on can drag on and on. One of the best ways to combat this is by using a timer to make sure that you are completely focused on finishing what you started.
For example, if you need to create social media posts, give yourself a time limit of 30 minutes. Set your timer and get started. Using a countdown timer will create a sense of urgency, which will help you focus on finishing the task before the timer reaches zero.
Schedule Walking or Standing Meetings
If you do have to plan a meeting, you may be tempted to reserve a conference room for 30 minutes or an hour. This will allow you to get everyone in a single location. In some cases, this can’t be avoided. However, there are situations when a meeting can be handled in much less time. This is especially true if everyone involved with the meeting is walking or standing.
Scheduling walking or standing meetings is going to help encourage brevity. This will ensure that everyone remains focused on the most important things that require immediate attention before they go back to work. Also, walking some during the day is great for getting more steps and improving concentration.
Be Willing to Delegate Tasks
As a digital marketer, you may feel like you must stay in control of all aspects of the marketing campaign you are working on. Unfortunately, this can lead to issues. As a result, you must learn to delegate some tasks.
For example, if something does not require your direct input or presence, then hand it off to someone else. In some cases, there may be someone on your team who is better equipped to handle a certain part of the task.
When you oversee a digital marketing campaign, there will be all sorts of parts and components. Trying to keep up with everything on your own is virtually impossible. If you want to ensure your strategies are successful, you should delegate and ask for help.
Avoid Multitasking
Through the years, you may have heard about all the benefits offered by multitasking. However, this is a tip that has evolved and changed through the years. Today, experts have proven that the brain will work when it is focused on a single thing or task at a time.
Have a Defined Goal or Objective for Your Meetings
As mentioned above, one of the main time wasters for your business is unnecessary or useless meetings. However, if there is a situation where a meeting must happen, be sure that everyone knows what to expect. You can do this by sending out an initial email to everyone who will attend. Include a summary of what should be accomplished at the meeting, and be sure to have a set goal or objective.
This will help reduce wasted time and let everyone know what to expect, but it also helps to ensure that after the objective or goal is accomplished, everyone needs to go back to what they were doing.
Eliminate or Ignore Distractions
Once you start a task, make sure you don’t get distracted and that these distractions do not cause you to get off track. After getting into the work zone, stay in this zone until your task is completed. This means that you must eliminate all distractions, especially any notifications that are coming from your computer or your phone.
One of the best ways to eliminate distractions is by starting at your desk or work area. Make sure this remains a distraction-free zone. This means that you should put your phone on airplane or do-not-disturb mode. Also, silence all your notifications. It is also possible to use some programs for blocking out any distractions from websites or apps.
Take Time for Learning
This is not an immediately obvious idea. However, if you take the time to learn something new, you may be able to save time down the road. For example, if you take the time to learn how to use a new and innovative scheduling tool on social media, you can save time using social media in the future.
Create an Open/Closed Door Policy
The very best executives and managers are readily available to help and talk to their staff. However, the biggest downside to this is that you may be tempted to intervene and to try to help with problems as they occur. If this is happening to you, then you should create an open/closed-door policy for your office.
Be sure that everyone on your team understands that if you leave your office door open, that they can come in, seek input, and ask questions. However, if you close your door, it means that you are trying to focus and get things done. By creating this policy, you don’t have to worry about being interrupted, and everyone will be on the same page.
Start Using a Manager for Your Passwords
When you work as a digital marketer, you have to use several apps, software programs, and tools that will require you to have a password. This may impact your time management abilities, and you could never notice. Because of this, it is smart to use a password manager tool. By doing this, it will make it easier and faster to log into every program you use.
Also, trying to remember all the different passwords you use for the tools and apps you access daily can be challenging. With a password manager, you don’t have to try to remember or find a password either. It makes everything run much more smoothly.
Take Breaks
If you work non-stop, this is not the best use of your time. Your body and mind will work better when you take breaks regularly. Several scientific studies have proven that taking breaks is necessary. It is best to work for 90 minutes and then take a break for 20 minutes. It is important to note that the body is hard-wired for pulsing. This means if you want to operate at your very best, you should renew your energy every 90 minutes with a break for a minimum of 20 minutes.
Use Templates
A great time management tip for all digital marketers is to use templates. Most modern marketing tasks are going to be mundane and repetitive. Therefore, you should use templates for as many of your daily tasks as you can.
